Hello and Welcome to the Plant and Playground Research Project.
This project sought to discover the relationships that are present between Air Force Plant Four, currently known as the Lockheed- Martin Plant, The union, International Association of Machinists, District Lodge 776 , and the local communities of White Settlement and Bomber Heights.
In order to do this we consulted three types of sources. We contacted IAM 776 and arranged to interview several union members as well as visiting a retiree meeting. In doing this we got to know members of the union and through our interviews we gained many insights into the relationship.
We also contacted people within the Community of White Settlement, and conducted an interview as well as received a great amount of help from the White Settlement museum.
In addition to the interviews and community interaction, we also utilized literature from other scholars, as well as archival sources from the Texas Labor Archives at University of Texas at Arlington
This project yielded many findings which are discussed in detail on the following pages.
